INTERNATIONAL DAY OF OLDER PERSONS |
| The theme for this year's
International Day of Older Persons, observed on 1 October, is
"Older Persons in an Intergenerational Society". Older persons
play an important role in their families, communities and societies. As
Secretary-General Kofi Annan notes, countries need to derive added
value and opportunities for development through an actively engaged
older population. In Madrid in 2002, the Second World Assembly on Ageing
encouraged Governments to review their policies to help ensure
generational equity. Below are related articles from the UN Chronicle print and online editions, as well as educational links, that are particularly relevant to older persons.
