Mother’s Day Celebration

North Carolina, America

On Saturday, May 8th, North Carolina YAD hosted their first Mother’s Day event. To start out the beautiful day, we first started with a 3 miles walk with our mothers at Lake Johnson, immediately followed by a vegetarian BBQ. The BBQ was a phenomenal success which would not have been made possible without Mrs. Linda Chaplin and Mrs. Eva Wang and our fellow YAD members. The meal consisted of fruits, salad, veggie burgers, shish kabobs, noodles, and home made lemonade. For our programs, we had Jeffie Chang and Michael Chiang entertain us with their wonderful Chinese yo-yo performance. The YAD group performed a few songs for the mothers. They also took some time to tell their mothers how much they appreciate all they have done for us and how much they love them. The four hour long Mother’s Day event soon ended with everyone looking towards the night sky and yelling as loudly as possible that they love their mothers. Many positive comments were received from the mothers telling the YAD that they enjoyed the event and some even said it was the best Mother’s Day they ever had. To hear this makes us extremely happy and we hope to be able to do this again in the future and make it even better than this year!

On Sunday, May 9th, BLIA hosted their Mother’s Day event. The event first started with a service where the Filial Piety Sutra was read, as well as a prayer for our mothers. Following the service, Venerable Yung Han gave a talk and the mothers were then asked to share some of their feelings. The touching moment left many of the mothers with tears in their eyes. To let the mothers relax, the fathers took over the duty of cooking lunch for all the mothers. They did a wonderful job of cooking tons of delicious food for everyone to enjoy. After the meal was over, it was time for performances. Brian Chen played a beautiful violin piece. Jeffie Chang and

Michael Chiang performed the Chinese yo-yo. Following performances, the singing began. The mothers could now sing to their hearts content during the karaoke portion of the event. This Mother’s Day is one that many people will not forget. Back to back events for our mothers to show them just how much we love them and how important they are to us. To all the mothers, we hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day!
