2001.08.12 Reconstruction of a Girls Hostel in Mundra, Kutch District, India India

The Gujurat earthquake in India on January 26, 2001 caused extensive damage to many schools and student hostels.  BLIA originally wanted to adopt a school in the Taluka Mundra villiage of Bhandreshwar for reconstruction. However, after the Ministry of Human Resources made available money for the re-construction of schools in the Kutch District, the government officials requested BLIA to work on re-constructing student hostels which were a first priority.

After a survey of the recommended hostels by the local government and agreement with authorities, BLIA adopted a girls hostel in Mundra.  The foundation stone laying ceremony was held on August 12, 2001 and was presided over by the District Development Officer Sri Rajiv Tapno.  Ven. Chueh Men on behalf of BLIA attended the ceremony of 150 people including many district officials and the President of the Mundra Rotary Club.
