The Mayon Volcano erupted again in June. The scorching ashes and rocks as big as truck put the neighboring cities in darkness. The 40,000 or so residents evacuted their homes. BLIA officers and Venerable Yong Kuan had an urgent meeting and advised the disaster relief and charity units to contract the Red Cross and social bureau so as to visit and comfort the victims and to distribute care packages. Venerable Master Hsing Yuan, the President of BLIA World Headquarters, telephoned to express his concern as soon as he learned about the incident by asking the BLIA, Philippine Chapter to set up immediately "Mayon Volcano Relief Center" to help with the relief. At 7:00pm on June 30, everyone met at Fo Guang Shan, Manlia to go to the affected area. The first relief covered 3,000 victims with items like candle, straw mattresses, biscuit, mosquito tents, milk, mouth cover, and instant noodles. By doing so, we hope to help relieve the victims.
