Sri Lanka, Aisa

The Dhamma Shalawa of Sri Sunethra Ramaya at the Welikumbura Villlge of Padiyatalawa, about 230km north-east of Colombo, declared open on June 24th, 2009 presided over by Ven. Chuehmen of Fo Guang Shan and Ven. Kiriniwela Somaratana, Director of Pirivena Education of the Eastern Province, Sri Lanka.

Construction of the Sunday Dhamma School building was sponsored by Buddha’s Light International Association, after Ven. Chuehmen learned that the chief nun Ven. Sunetrha was having difficulty to construct a building to accommodate her Sunday Dhamma students from rain and shine.

In conjunction with the opening ceremony, a children art competition to encourage the youngster on the theme ‘to be a good child’ was organized and participated by 22 students. The children with their pure and simple mind, expressed their goodness in the drawings – getting up early preparing for school, paying homage to the Buddha, helping mothers to do house work, assisting the elderly people, protecting trees and so on.

The parents and students expressed their gratitude to BLIA for giving them the study hall entertained the guests with songs and drama. The parents also helped to make-up and dress their children for the drama.
