2001.07.31 Typhoon Tao Chi Hits Taiwan Badly -  BLIA Members Relieve Victims of the Disaster. Taiwan

Life is impermanent.  In August, Taiwan was hit badly again by Mother Nature, typhoon Tao-cho. BLIA members devoted themselves to the rescue work immediately.

On July 31, Typhoon Tao Chi caused sever mudslide in Hwa-Line, Nan-Tao, Tai-Chun, and Mau-Li areas. It caused 109 people dead, 111 people missing, and 189 people injury.

Three villages were washed away by mudslide just in few seconds. The total estimated damage in agriculture and electricity industry is over $NT 1 billion.

Right after the disaster occurred, BLIA members were gathered to set up the rescue centers in  Nao-Tao, Haw-Line, and Mau-Li areas. They distributed water, food, and clothing to the victims, also helped victims clean their houses. Members from Taso Twen meditation center prepared over 1000 lunch boxes daily and distributed them to the victims in the remote villages.

On August 1 and 2, Elder Monk Hsin Din and Venerable Yung Fu visited the disaster areas to comfort victims. BLIA members went to the hospitals to show sympathy to those were injured and helped to prepare services for the family who had lost their love ones. Homeless old people and orphans who lost their parents from this disaster are arranged to move in Nan-Tao Senior Home and Dai-Shi childcare center.
