BLIA World Headquarters 2008 The Beauty of Fo Guang Photo Contest

2008 The Beauty of Fo Guang Photo Contest is to be conducted in eight regions: North America East, North America West, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, Asia, and Taiwan. The rules of the contest are as follows:

1. Contest Title:

The Beauty of Fo Guang

2. Qualifications:

All photo enthusiasts (a maximum of three entries for each person)

3. Specifications:

Please submit 8x12 color photos (A4) to the organizing unit for selection. Attach a brief written description of the meaning of each entry.

Note: Do not use frame, cropping, lamination, mounting, copying, photo manipulation or sequence shot.

4. Procedure:

A completed ˇ§Contest Registration Formˇ¨ must be attached to the back of each photo and mailed to designated locations with ˇ§The Beauty of Fo Guangˇ¨ clearly printed on the envelope.

5. Selection:

All entries selected by different regions as ˇ§Outstandingˇ¨ will be sent to the World Headquarters Secretarial Office for final selection of ˇ§Distinctiveˇ¨ entries. Winners will be announced and presented with prizes and certificates of recognition during the BLIA General Conference in October 2008.

6. Themes:

1)

Fo Guang Shanˇ¦s architecture and natural scenery

2)

The architecture, shrines, and halls of Fo Guang Shan temples worldwide

3)

The harmony and joy of teamwork at Fo Guang Shan

7. Deadline:

Outstanding entries from different regions, including written descriptions as indicated, must be sent to World Headquarters Asia Region Office before May 30, 2008 for the final selection of ˇ§Distinctiveˇ¨ entries.

8. Prizes:

Each entry in every prize category will be awarded a prize and a certificate of recognition as follows:

1)

Distinctive: Three prizes of NTD$ 20,000 each

2)

Excellent: Five prizes of NTD$10,000 each

3)

Ingenious: Ten prizes of NTD$3,000 each

4)

Outstanding: Twenty prizes of NTD$2,000 each

10. Contest Rules:

1)

Any sequence shot, cropping or computer manipulation will not be accepted.

2)

All entries become the property of Fo Guang Shan, cannot be withdrawn, and will not be returned. Contestants with winning entries must send original negatives, using appropriate packaging, to the designated location.

3)

All copyrights, if any, to the winning entries become the property of  Fo Guang Shan Monastery, which has the full right to exhibit them at any place in any format, and to authorize the use of these photographs by  a third party. The above right is timeless and limitless and winners cannot withdraw their consent to the transfer of ownership of the property or to the authorization of use by third parties.

Contestants with winning entries may, without objection from BLIA or Fo Guang Shan, duplicate their work and use or distribute it as they see fit, so long as such use does not in any way attempt to limit or interfere in any way with Fo Guang Shanˇ¦s ownership and use of the photograph(s). The organizer agrees to credit all photographers, whenever the photographs are used, with their full names (if English is needed, Romanization of their Chinese names will be used).

Each entry must be the work of the individual contestant who owns, if any exist, the complete copyrights. Should a third party contest the copyrights, and if proven justified by the organizing unit, the winner will be disqualified and any prize or awards which would have been received by the winner shall be returned to the organizing unit. Any legal implications from the violation of copyrights will be the sole responsibility of the contestant, and not the organizing unit.

All contestants, upon entering this contest, hereby consent to all rules and requirements of the contest.
