04.22.2007 BLIA Children Art Competition in Chennai, India BLIA, Chennai, India

The programme was organised at Mahabodhi Society Vihara from 10:30 to 12:30 on 22 April. Ven. Dr Mouriya mettapala (newly ordained monk, a member and chapter director) inaugurated. Chapter President Mr. E Anban introduced on the theme of art compitition and further selected art will be sent to BLIA world headquarters for its participation in the exhibition at UN. Most children know less about Poverty. Hence we explained about developing nation, developed nation and on UN MDG goals in alleviating poverty.

We also selecting first, second and third best Art and will award at Veshak day celebration on 2nd May. Other participants will be issued with a merit certificate. BLIA Chennai chapter will exhibit the same on Veshak day.

This art competition news was appeared in local media (over 3 lakhs circulation) with a photo on 23 May 2007.

All students gave a note on the art:

"Educating higher level, protecting nature, preserving history, preaching on good deeds will reduce poverty," says Abhnayaa 9th class girl.

"Begging, Child labour abolition will lead to end poverty," says chandra prakash 5th class,

"Linking the rivers in the nation will improve agriculture thus can end poverty," says Jagadish 7th class.

Many students stress on education which only can end poverty.

A group of residents called us and requesting to organise once again informing about 100 students can participate from their area. We are yet to decide.
